A gradual drop in water output is rarely sudden aquifer failure. More often, silt and fine sand have collected at the bottom of the bore and reduced the effective column of water.
Look for muddy or gritty discharge in the first few minutes of pumping, a pump that trips repeatedly, unusual noise from the motor, or visible sand deposits in the sump.
Flushing with compressed air or high-pressure water clears most of this build-up. Deeper blockages may need mechanical cleaning by a specialist.
